Bar Code Printers

The Zebra LP 2824’s 300 dpi print head enables high quality, crisp, clear printing of bin, item, and jewelry tags.  This is our preferred printer simply because we have had such good success with it.  Other label printer will work such as the DYMO SE330.

The Zebra LP series printers are direct thermal printers and do not require a ribbon to create the image on the label.  The resulting label will last about a year within your store isle before it yellows due to light exposure. We have not found this to be an issue since price changes ant associated active requires a reprint of the label.  Direct thermal printers require direct thermal labels - these are available from us or your coop warehouse.

The Zebra TLP series printers are a thermal transfer unit which utilizes a wax ribbon to create the image on the label.

We have an assortment of proven labels formats available for you.  If you are a True Value store, a branded 2x1 label is available from the ware house.  A generic 2x1 is available for other coops and general retailers.

Gift shops like a removable 1x1 label which can be easily peeled off items that will be gift wrapped during the sales process.  When ordering labels make sure to indicate if you need a permanent or removable label - trying to remove a label off a piece of crystal during the busy holiday season can be a real pain.

A small jewelry tag is also available for small items and works just fine with the TransActPOS application and printer combination.  Many merchants will not opt for the jewelry tag format but will print a 1x1 label and then mount the label on to a small hang tag which is then placed on the item.

One last note, within the TransActPOS application, you can create and customize labels to fit your needs.  We are not limited to the Zebra printer series but can work with any Windows based printer.

Another common printer is the DYMO SE330.  If you already have one of these units, it is not necessary to abandon it to utilize label printing within TransActPOS.  Simple load the Windows printer driver, format a label and go.  The DYMO SE330 is also a direct thermal printer similar in function as the Zebra LP-2824.

What is the difference between a direct thermal and thermal transfer printers?

A direct thermal printer prints to heat sensitive paper without the use of a ribbon. This is the same type of paper you may remember from the first fax machines. Direct thermal printers are used in retail for receipts, in business for calculators, and in other non-industrial applications.

Thermal transfer printers utilize a ribbon that forms a chemical bond to high performance material such as polyesters, vinyl films, and other exotic materials. Thermal transfer is designed for industrial applications where high heat and chemical resistance are needed. If heat sensitive paper is used in a high heat application, the paper would turn black causing unreadable text.
